Eighth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (10-12 October 2018, Astana, Kazakhstan).
By the Decision of the Seventh Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention, held from 17 to 19 November 2015 in Budapest (Hungary), the Government of Kazakhstan committed itself to host the next Eighth Session of the Meeting of the Parties in 2018. The eighth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention is scheduled to be held in Astana from October 10 to 12, 2018.
For the first time, the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention will be held in Asia. It is also the first Meeting of the Parties to be held following the Convention's global opening in 2016.
The eighth session of the Meeting of the Parties will take place in an expanded format, including the participation of countries outside the UNECE region and countries that are not Parties to the Convention. About 600 people are expected to attend - the official delegates of most UN member countries, the UN Secretariat, international and non-governmental organizations, the private and science sector.
At the eighth session it is planned to adopt a number of important decisions of the Parties, including the strategy for the implementation of the Convention at the global level, the signing of international agreements, the accession of several countries to the Convention.
Currently, the International Water Assessment Center assists the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the preparation and organization of the Eighth Session of the Meeting of the Parties in Astana.
