On February 22-25, 2022, an international online conference was held on the topic “The Silk Road of Knowledge: Science and Green Policy”, which was attended by representatives of various government bodies, international institutions, NGOs and interested experts in the field of water management and climate change. The conference was organized by the Kazakh-German University, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the program "Green Central Asia".

On 8-10 February 2022  UN-Water Integrated Monitoring Initiative for SDG 6 (IMI-SDG6) hosted the 2nd Global Workshop on Integrated Monitoring of SDG 6 on Water and Sanitation, which builds on the first global workshop held in the Hague in November 2017.

The overall purpose of the workshop was to provide a platform for country focal points and UN custodian agencies to take stock of the efforts to date to report on progress towards SDG 6, to look at next steps for using SDG 6 data, and to prepare for future work on SDG 6 monitoring and reporting.

On 3-4 February 2022 the Convention’s Working Group on Implementation (WGI) organized a special session for a seminar on good practices and lessons learned in implementing the UNECE Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents. The seminar was held in Geneva and online via zoom.

The International Water Assessment Centre in cooperation with the UN Economic Commission for Europe initiated the implementation of the project "Development of joint measures to prevent and respond to pollution of the Syrdarya River in emergency situations."

The purpose of the project is to reduce and prevent pollution of water resources of the transboundary Syrdarya River by assisting the Joint Kazakh-Uzbek working group in developing joint measures to prevent and respond to emergency water pollution.

On December 21, 2021, the first technical meeting of experts of the project "Development of joint measures to prevent and respond to pollution of the Syr Darya river in emergency situations" was held.


December 10, 2021 in Nur-Sultan under the chairmanship of Erbol Tashimov, Chief expert of the Directorate of international water relations of the Department of Transboundary Essentials of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan the Fifth meeting of the working group on the chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the Bureau of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (hereinafter - the Working Group) was held.

On December 2, 2021 the Inaugural Meeting of the Working Group on Tailings Safety and the Prevention of Accidental Water Pollution (IIWG) took place in Tajikistan, bringing together representatives of different national authorities, operators, international institutions and interested specialists to strengthen tailings safety in Tajikistan and beyond in Central Asia. The group agreed on the Terms of Reference of the IIWG and recommended its formal establishment under the government of Tajikistan. With this, Tajikistan is the first country in Central Asia to launch the establishment of such a working group.

On November 

On November 25, 2021, in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, a Meeting of the Working Group on Preparation to the Seventh Meeting of the Interministerial Coordination Council to the National Dialogue on Water Policy (NPD) was held. The meeting was organized with the participation of representatives of state bodies of Kazakhstan, expert community and international organizations.

The Twelfth Meeting of the Task Force on Target Setting and Reporting under the Protocol on Water and Health of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) - Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO) took place on November 17, 2021.


26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) The COP 26 UN Climate Change Conference, hosted by the UK in partnership with Italy, took place from 31 October to 12 November 2021 in the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow, UK.
