From 5 to 6 March 2018 the First Technical Meeting of experts on joint Kazakh-Russian studies of Kazakhstan's transboundary rivers took place in Uralsk (Kazakhstan). The research is carried out within the framework of the joint project of the EU / UNDP / UNECE "Support to Kazakhstan for the transition to a green economy model".
The meeting brought together national experts from Kazakhstan and Russia, as well as representatives of interested governmental bodies of both states.
The main objectives of the meeting were to consider approaches and proposals for the development of a draft Action Plan for the rational use and protection of water resources in the Zhayik (Ural) river, including the impact of climate change. Also, the main objectives and tasks were discussed to agree on the water balance of the rivers Karaozen and Saryozen (Bolshoy and Maly Uzen).
Following the meeting, the main actions were developed and a further plan and timetables for the project implementation were determined.
