On April 13-14, 2022, an expert meeting on monitoring, assessment and data exchange in a mixed format (Geneva and online) was held.
The purpose of the meeting was to review the first draft of the updated publication Strategies for Monitoring and Assessment of Transboundary Rivers, Lakes and Groundwater and to discuss the content of the new publication Good Practices and Lessons Learned inTransboundary Data Exchange.
The meeting was intended, firstly, for nominated experts with experience in matters related to monitoring and assessment and coordinators of the Water Convention, and secondly, for organizations interested in cooperation on these topics and wishing to contribute to the preparation of two considered publications.
The first draft of Strategies for Monitoring and Assessment of Transboundary Rivers, Lakes is based on the UNECE Guidelines on Monitoring and Assessment of Transboundary Rivers, Lakes and Groundwaters developed under the Water Convention, as well as on the results of a review performed in 2019-2021 to assess the relevance of the 2006 Strategic Approach publication. The draft takes into account written comments provided by countries and partners, as well as discussions during the global workshop on monitoring, assessment and data exchange held in December 2019 and the expert meeting on monitoring, assessment and data exchange held in April 2021. During the meeting, the participants got acquainted with the changes made and submitted their comments and suggestions, which will be taken into account in the final version of the publication.
The publication Good Practices and Lessons Learned inTransboundary Data Exchange will be a compilation of case studies accompanied by a description of the lessons learned with links to information on good practices. The meeting participants got acquainted with the general structure of the publication and the case template. All countries and interested organizations are invited to provide an overview of their current data exchange practices using the provided template.
As a result of the meeting, the experts discussed further actions to develop publications.
