The Fourth meeting of the Working group on Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the Bureau of the Convention on the protection and use of transboundary watercourses and international lakes was held on 6 September 2021 in Nur-Sultan and chaired by Vice-Minister of ecology, Geology and natural resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kozhaniyazov S. S.

At the meeting, the participants discussed organizational issues regarding the preparation of Kazakhstan's participation in the Ninth Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, which will be held from September 29 to October 1, 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland.

As a result of the meeting, it was decided on the members of a delegation of Kazakhstan to participate in the Ninth Session, as well as on the candidacy from the Republic of Kazakhstan, to the Bureau of the Water Convention.

The meeting was held with the participation of interested state bodies of Kazakhstan in the mode of a video conference.

The Working Group serves as a permanent working body on the implementation of the chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Bureau of the Convention.

It was created by the order of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 39 dated 28.01.2019.

The International Water Assessment Centre (IWAC) is responsible for the functions of the Secretariat.

Kazakhstan assumed the Chairmanship of the Bureau of the Convention at the Eighth session of the meeting of the Parties, which was held in Nur-Sultan from October 10-12, 2018 The Chair of the Bureau elected Zebeshev Ardak Amirkhanly, Deputy Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
