The Sixth Meeting of Inter-ministerial Coordination Council of the National Water Policy Dialogue in Kazakhstan is scheduled to take place on 20 November 2020 in Nur-Sultan and will be chaired by Mr. Yerlan Nysanbayev, vice-minister of ecology, geology, and natural resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
National Water Policy dialogues have been implemented in Kazakhstan since 2012 with the support of the European Union, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and is referred to as a platform for discussing water resource management issues in Kazakhstan and coordinating work of Kazakhstan’s governmental bodies, scientific institutions, private sector, non-governmental and international organizations in solving the issue of use and protection of water resources in Kazakhstan.
The meeting is organized by the Ministry of ecology, geology and natural resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the regional project “European Union – Central Asia Water, Environment and Climate Change Cooperation (WECOOP)” and with the support from UNECE, OECD and the International Water Assessment Center.
Main points of the meeting discussion will evolve around issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and its neighboring countries on the protection and use of water resources of transboundary rivers, activities provided in the Concept of the Water Resources Management Program of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2020-2030, and proposals for the National Water Policy Dialogue workplan for 2021.
The meeting will also consider mechanisms of interaction among governmental bodies on the prevention of water pollution from industrial accidents and activities carried out under the Protocol on Water and Health.
The meeting will take place in the office of International Water Assessment Center in the form of a videoconference at 14:30 (Nur-Sultan time). Participants will be provided with a simultaneous translation to English and Russian languages.
