On 23-26 July, 2019 the Hungarian delegation headed by Mr. Peter Kovacs, Head of the River Basin Management and Water Protection Department of the Ministry of Interior of Hungary visited the Nur-Sultan.
The main purpose of the visit is to discuss the details of cooperation in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of water management between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Interior of Hungary of April 29, 2019 (hereinafter - Memorandum), as well as assistance to Hungary in the framework of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship of the Water Convention.
During the visit, a meeting was held at IWAC, at which issues of cooperation between IWAC and Hungary were discussed, as well as reaching agreement on the preparation of a Handbook on the allocation of water resources.
The members of the Hungarian delegation with the assistance of the IWAC held meetings with concerned government bodies of Kazakhstan. The participants in the meetings agreed on priority themes to be developed within the framework of the Memorandum, including distribution of water resources on transboundary rivers, ecological runoff, flood forecasting, drought management and irrigation. The Hungarian side proposed the creation of a Joint Expert Group to coordinate the implementation of the Memorandum and develop a work plan for 2020-2021.
The Hungarian delegation also visited the Astana reservoir and the Protective dam of Nur-Sultan.
