On June 14, 2019 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan representatives of government agencies responsible for water issues, academic institutions, non-governmental and international organizations participated in the meeting of the Working Group on the National Water Policy Dialogue (NWPD).
The meeting addressed issues that require interaction and coordination of stakeholders. In particular, the participants discussed cooperation of Kazakhstan in the field of transboundary groundwaters, issues of ensuring the safety of hydraulic structures in Kazakhstan and preventing accidental water pollution, as well as the possibility of creating an international water and energy consortium in Central Asia. The Director of the International Water Assessment Centre (IWAC), Serik Akhmetov made a presentation on the IWAC activities on dam safety in Central Asia.
Following the meeting, comments were prepared on the draft work plan on the NPWD for 2019-2020. and announced recommendations for the meeting of the Interdepartmental Coordination Council scheduled for this fall.
